GATLINBURG ROOTS: THEY BUILT THEM TO LAST… AND SOME STILL DO

Before power tools. Before trucks. Before anything came easy, they built them by hand—log by log, notched tight, stacked with care. Every wall carried weight. Every beam had a purpose.

These weren’t just cabins. They were survival.

Winters came hard in these mountains. Wind pushed through every gap it could find. Snow piled up against the doors. But those cabins held.

Because the people who built them knew something—you don’t build for today. You build for what’s coming.

Some of those homes are still standing. A hundred years of sun. A hundred years of storms. A hundred years of seasons trying to take them down.

And they’re still there.

Quiet. Worn. But holding.

Not because they were lucky… but because they were built right the first time.

Do you know of an old cabin still standing in these mountains?
